If you have not already upgraded to <strong>F8<\/strong> please visit&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/redhat-fedora-fedora-7-to-fedora-8-upgrade\/\">RedHat Fedora: Fedora 7<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/redhat-fedora-fedora-core-6-to-fedora-core-7-upgrade\/\">to Fedora 8 upgrade.<\/a> page first before going up to <strong>FC9<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tYou will only need to replace step <strong>8 )<\/strong> with the below step:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>8 )<\/strong> Install fedora-relese either using the RPM&rsquo;s in step <strong>2)<\/strong> below or use another mirror from the <a href=\"http:\/\/fedora.redhat.com\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">fedora.redhat.com<\/a> site.&nbsp; You can also use the mirrors from <a href=\"http:\/\/fedoralegacy.org\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">fedoralegacy.org<\/a> if your distribution is too old.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tUpgrading to Fedora 9 is straightforward, in theory, and follows only a few basic steps below however there are some considerations which you may wish to review.&nbsp; If you&#39;re feeling lucky, you can just skip to <a href=\"#f8-to-f9-upgrade_the-basic-steps\"><strong>THE BASIC STEPS<\/strong><\/a> further down.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<!--more-->\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>CONSIDERATIONS<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n\tBecause <strong>Fedora 9<\/strong> is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>new<\/strong><\/em><\/span> release, it&rsquo;s probably advisable to check if you &lsquo;really&rsquo; want to upgrade. &nbsp;&nbsp; One thing to do is check &lsquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/DocsProject\/Schedule#Post-release\" rel=\"external nofollow\"> http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/DocsProject\/Schedule#Post-release<\/a>&lsquo; for release notes and dates.&nbsp; If you are dependent on your Linux distribution for any amount of job\/home related work, you might want to wait for the FINAL or official version AND possibly even for a bug fix be rolled out.&nbsp; One big change to note is that we will move from <strong>KDE 3.X<\/strong> to <strong>KDE 4<\/strong>.&nbsp; As with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>any X.0 versions<\/em><\/span> of software, tendency is that they will be buggy and is a risk you need to weight.&nbsp; Per the site above, it looks like <strong>Fedora 9<\/strong> is ready for release.&nbsp; We see the latest Post-release updates are also done on:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>&ldquo;30 May 2008 &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;fedora-release-notes package update&rdquo;<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIt seams we are good to go and there seams to be even a patch release per above.&nbsp; The procedure is therefore the same.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 102, 0);\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong><\/span> Since my own upgrade to Fedora 9, I have seen plenty of changes and problems, the bulk of which is with KDE 4.0.&nbsp; However recently KDE 4.1 was released with addressed a set of problems though others still persist.&nbsp; To date there may likely be some problems you may face after the upgrade.&nbsp; Here is a couple of links to help you decide if upgrading is the right choice for you:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/fedora-9-and-kde-4x-problems-starting-applications-due-to-xorg-x11-xfs\/\">Fedora 9 and KDE 4.x: Problems starting applications due to xorg-x11-xfs<\/a><br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/acrobat-reader-on-fedora-9-seamingly-never-ending-list-of-or-non-stop-continous-expr-syntax-error\/\">Acrobat Reader on Fedora 9: Seamingly never ending list of or non stop continous &ldquo;expr: syntax error&rdquo;<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/rpm-unable-to-uninstall-rpms-scriptlet-failed-exit-status-1\/\">RPM unable to uninstall RPM&rsquo;s: scriptlet failed, exit status 1<\/a><br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/kde-4x-and-fedora-9-problems-starting-xserver-after-changing-video-settings\/\">KDE 4.X and Fedora 9: Problems starting xserver after changing video settings.<\/a><br \/>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/microdevsys.com\/wp\/kde-4x-and-fedora-9-the-taskbar-is-gone\/\">KDE 4.X and Fedora 9: The taskbar is gone.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhat changes to expect can be viewed from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhatmagazine.com\/2008\/05\/14\/fedora-9-and-the-road-to-kde4\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">this great article<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn addition to the above, the <strong>KDE 4.0<\/strong> appeared very unyieldly to me and not nearly as configurable as it&rsquo;s predecessor <strong>KDE 3.5.X<\/strong> versions were.&nbsp; So much so that most functionality you may have been used to, is now either disabled or not there at all, even simple things like resizing the taskbar can&rsquo;t be done by drag and drop and I wasn&rsquo;t able to figure out how to enable it.&nbsp; Your mileage may vary.&nbsp; Though this is not a show stopper for me as I&rsquo;ve adjusted to using KDE 4.0&rsquo;s new features, it may be a more serious issue for some.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong><a name=\"f8-to-f9-upgrade_the-basic-steps\">THE BASIC STEPS<\/a><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n\t<strong>1)<\/strong> nice -n 19 yum update<br \/>\n\t<strong>2)<\/strong> cd \/some\/dir<br \/>\n\t<strong>3)<\/strong> mkdir .\/F8toF9<br \/>\n\t<strong>4)<\/strong> cd .\/F8toF9<br \/>\n\t<strong>5)<\/strong> nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade<br \/>\n\t<strong>6)<\/strong> nice -n 19 yum clean all<br \/>\n\t<strong>7)<\/strong> nice -n 19 yum clean all (Just to make sure)<br \/>\n\t<strong>8 )<\/strong> wget http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/releases\/9\/Fedora\/i386\/os\/Packages\/fedora-release-notes-9.0.0-1.noarch.rpm<br \/>\n\t<strong>9)<\/strong> wget http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/releases\/9\/Fedora\/i386\/os\/Packages\/fedora-release-9-2.noarch.rpm<br \/>\n\t<strong>10)<\/strong> rpm -Uvh fedora-release*.rpm<br \/>\n\t<strong>11)<\/strong> cat \/etc\/fedora-release&nbsp; (Make sure &lsquo;<strong>Fedora release 9 (Sulphur)<\/strong>&lsquo; appears )<br \/>\n\t<strong>12)<\/strong> nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-8-upgrade.June.29.2008.02.00.PM.txt<br \/>\n\t<strong>13)<\/strong> Refer below for any issues and repeat step 12) as necessary.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 102, 0);\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong><\/span> You can forgo the use of &lsquo;<strong>nice<\/strong>&lsquo; alltogether but would recommend it if you still want to use your system for other porposes, while upgrading, without incuring a significant slowdown due to the upgrade.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong>UPGRADING <\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"><strong><span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1)<\/span><\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Ensure your Fedora 8 is up to date by running &lsquo;<strong>nice -n 19 yum update<\/strong>&lsquo;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>2)<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Again we start off by making some work folder for all the files and notes we will take on the upgrade process:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n\t<strong>$ cd \/some\/dir<br \/>\n\t$ mkdir .\/F8toF9<br \/>\n\t$ cd .\/F8toF9<br \/>\n\t$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade <\/strong>(Current version &#8211; we have not yet installed the release rpm)<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\tNo Packages marked for Update<br \/>\n\t<strong>$<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNothing was noted for update.&nbsp; Then:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum clean all<\/strong><br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe above removed a bunch of packages again as it did from Fedora 7 to Fedora 8 upgrade.&nbsp; Ran it second time to get:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum clean all<\/strong><br \/>\n\tYum Version: 3.2.8<br \/>\n\tCOMMAND: yum clean all<br \/>\n\tInstallroot: \/<br \/>\n\tExt Commands:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\tall<br \/>\n\tCleaning up Everything<br \/>\n\t<strong>$<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMeaning my system is now clean.&nbsp; I followed the above by installing the Fedora 9 releases:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ wget http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/releases\/9\/Fedora\/i386\/os\/Packages\/fedora-release-notes-9.0.0-1.noarch.rpm<br \/>\n\t$ wget http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/releases\/9\/Fedora\/i386\/os\/Packages\/fedora-release-9-2.noarch.rpm<br \/>\n\t$ rpm -Uvh fedora-release*.rpm<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<br \/>\n\t<strong>$ cat \/etc\/fedora-release<\/strong><br \/>\n\tFedora release 9 (Sulphur)<br \/>\n\t$\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>3) <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Next we start the actual upgrade process.&nbsp; As before, this will tell us any missing dependencies we have which we&rsquo;ll need to resolve prior to completing the upgrade:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-8-upgrade.June.29.2008.02.00.PM.txt<\/strong> . . Error: Missing Dependency: tcl-devel = 1:8.5.1 is needed by package tk-devel Error: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package nvi-m17n-nocanna Error: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package ckermit Error: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package nvi-m17n-canna Error: Missing Dependency: libssl.so.6 is needed by package ckermit Error: Missing Dependency: libtermcap is needed by package compat-slang Error: Missing Dependency: libkdecorations.so.1 is needed by package deKorator Error: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package cdecl Error: Missing Dependency: perl(:MODULE_COMPAT_5.8.6) is needed by package perl-XML-Encoding Error: Missing Dependency: libcrypto.so.6 is needed by package ckermit Error: Missing Dependency: tcl = 1:8.5.1 is needed by package tk $\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI then decided to download the missing packages.&nbsp; For a hint of what to get, check&nbsp; &lsquo;<strong>.\/Fedora-8-upgrade.June.29.2008.02.00.PM.txt<\/strong>&lsquo; above that you generated part from the update step:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs I checked <strong>.\/Fedora-8-upgrade.June.29.2008.02.00.PM.txt<\/strong>, I noticed that there are two versions of <strong>tcl-devel<\/strong> but only one of <strong>tk-devel<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\ttk-devel requires: tcl-devel = 1:8.5.1<br \/>\n\tProcessing Dependency: tcl-devel = 1:8.5.1 for package: tk-devel<br \/>\n\tSearching pkgSack for dep: tcl-devel<br \/>\n\tskipping reposetup, pkgsack exists<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\tPotential match for tcl-devel from tcl-devel &#8211; 1:8.5.1-4.fc9.i386<br \/>\n\tMatched tcl-devel &#8211; 1:8.5.1-4.fc9.i386 to require for tcl-devel<br \/>\n\tPotential match for tcl-devel from tcl-devel &#8211; 1:8.5.2-2.fc9.i386<br \/>\n\tPotential resolving package tcl-devel &#8211; 1:8.5.1-4.fc9.i386 has newer instance in ts.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tyum found <strong>8.5.2-2.fc9.i386<\/strong> but only choose the <strong>8.5.1-4<\/strong> version suitable for the upgrade.&nbsp; As I checked the various repos online, I notice that:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\ttcl-devel-8.5.2-2.fc9.i386.rpm<br \/>\n\ttcl-devel-8.5.1-4.fc9.i386.rpm\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tbut only one for <strong>tk-devel<\/strong>:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\ttk-devel-8.5.1-4.fc9.i386.rpm\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI checked &lsquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/rpmfind.net\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">http:\/\/rpmfind.net<\/a>&lsquo; online to see what are the current versions available.&nbsp; The same case was true when I checked: many of the packages did not have the same versions.&nbsp; I had enough fun for the day and decided to look into this problem later.&nbsp; The next day, I checked with &lsquo;<strong>cat \/etc\/yum.repos.d\/fedora-updates.repo<\/strong>&lsquo;:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\tmirrorlist=http:\/\/mirrors.fedoraproject.org\/mirrorlist?repo=updates-released-f$releasever&amp;arch=$basearch<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI replaced the above with:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\thttp:\/\/mirrors.fedoraproject.org\/mirrorlist?repo=updates-released-f9&#038;arch=i386\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tto check which repositories it is accessing.&nbsp; I checked some of them and now &lsquo;<strong>tk-devel<\/strong>&lsquo; also came in <strong>8.5.2-2<\/strong>&lsquo; version as well!&nbsp; On one of the sites listed by above command (<a href=\"http:\/\/gulus.usherbrooke.ca\/pub\/distro\/fedora\/linux\/updates\/9\/i386\" rel=\"external nofollow\"> http:\/\/gulus.usherbrooke.ca\/pub\/distro\/fedora\/linux\/updates\/9\/i386<\/a>) I see:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\ttcl-8.5.2-2.fc9.i386.rpm&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 2008-Jun-27 23:06:53&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 2.1M&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; application\/octet-stream<br \/>\n\ttcl-devel-8.5.2-2.fc9.i386.rpm&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 2008-Jun-27 23:06:57&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 171.2K&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; application\/octet-stream\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\ttelling me that that package was actively being updated at the time when I was having these issues above.&nbsp; I rerun the upgrade with\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-9-upgrade.June.30.2008.02.00.PM.txt<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis time no issues from\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>tk-devel<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\tor\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>tcl-devel<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOutput of above command is below:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package nvi-m17n-nocanna<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package ckermit<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package nvi-m17n-canna<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libssl.so.6 is needed by package ckermit<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap is needed by package compat-slang<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libkdecorations.so.1 is needed by package deKorator<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package cdecl<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: perl(:MODULE_COMPAT_5.8.6) is needed by package perl-XML-Encoding<br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libcrypto.so.6 is needed by package ckermit\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNow I only have 9 dependencies left\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t$ rpm -q &ndash;whatprovides libtermcap.so.2<br \/>\n\t$ rpm -aq|grep nvi-m17n-nocanna\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI see that both are installed on my system.&nbsp; <strong>nvi-m17n-nocanna<\/strong> sounds vaguely familiar which probably means I installed it in the past at some point.&nbsp; I check one of the mirrors: <a href=\"http:\/\/fedora.mirror.umoss.org\/fedora\/linux\/updates\/9\/i386\/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">http:\/\/fedora.mirror.umoss.org\/fedora\/linux\/updates\/9\/i386\/<\/a>.&nbsp; The package <strong>nvi-m17n-nocanna<\/strong> doesn&rsquo;t exist as a package in the repo list.&nbsp; In this case, I have little choice but to remove <strong>nvi-m17n-nocanna<\/strong>.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e nvi-m17n-nocanna-1.79-20040401.23<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI will reinstall it later if needed and available.&nbsp; The same situation applies to ckermit.&nbsp; It also turns out that ckermit was an older FC5 package that didn&rsquo;t get removed.&nbsp; The same situation applies to the following packages as well:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<em>ckermit-8.0.211-5.fc5<br \/>\n\tcompat-slang-1.4.9-27.2.2<br \/>\n\tdeKorator-0.1-1fb<br \/>\n\tcdecl-2.5-30<br \/>\n\tperl-XML-Encoding-1.01-27<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe next attempt gave me another missing dependency:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-9-upgrade.July.4.2008.00.13.AM.txt<\/strong><br \/>\n\tError: Missing Dependency: libtermcap.so.2 is needed by package nvi-m17n-canna\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI reran above upgrade after removing &lsquo;<strong>nvi-m17n-canna<\/strong>&lsquo;.&nbsp; This time no dependencies were listed:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-9-upgrade.July.4.2008.01.23.AM.txt<\/strong><br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\tTransaction Summary<br \/>\n\t=============================================================================<br \/>\n\tInstall&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 199 Package(s)<br \/>\n\tUpdate&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1859 Package(s)<br \/>\n\tRemove&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 1 Package(s)\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\tTotal download size: <strong>2.9 G<\/strong><br \/>\n\tDownloading Packages:<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\thttp:\/\/less.cogeco.net\/ftp\/fedora\/linux\/updates\/9\/i386\/kdeedu-4.0.5-1.fc9.i386.rpm: [Errno 4] Socket Error: timed out<br \/>\n\tTrying other mirror.<br \/>\n\t.<br \/>\n\t.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\ttimeout and a whopping 2.9 GB needs to be downloaded.&nbsp; the timeout was due to my Cable Modem loosing it&rsquo;s connection to my unnamed ISP.&nbsp; I power cycled the Cable Modem and the installation continued after a few dozen of the above messages but failed anyway eventually.&nbsp; Rerunning the upgrade produced a few of:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\tfile \/usr\/share\/man\/man8\/ftpd_selinux.8.gz from install of selinux-policy-3.3.1-74.fc9.noarch conflicts with file from package selinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27.noarch\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOne possible solution to removing the selinux problem above is to remove some of the modules or all if you do not wish to use selinux\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e &ndash;notriggers selinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tor for a more complete removal use:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e &ndash;notriggers &ndash;allmatches selinux-policy-strict<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tTo remove I ran:\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ rpm -aq|grep selinux-policy-strict<\/strong><br \/>\n\tselinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27<br \/>\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e selinux-policy-strict-1.27.1-2.27<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tI then reran\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade 2&gt;&amp;1|tee .\/Fedora-9-upgrade.July.4.2008.10.32.PM.txt<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThis time the installation completed and I rebooted to Fedora 9.&nbsp; However, there were problems, particularly with <strong>KDE 4<\/strong>.&nbsp; As of the writing of this post, I reran &lsquo;<strong>nice -n 19 yum -y upgrade<\/strong>&lsquo; which listed some 240 packages to be updated since I upgraded to Fedora 9 two weeks ago.&nbsp; This gives some clue as to the active community behind <strong>Fedora 9<\/strong>.&nbsp; For the list of issues, use the top right search box for the issue you have.\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong>CLEANING UP OLD PACKAGES <\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n\tAfter doing this many upgrades (In this case From <strong>Fedore Core 1<\/strong> to <strong>Fedora 9<\/strong>), you may want to remove some of the old packages you have had.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n\t<strong>$ rpm -aq|grep <em>fc4<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n\tskype-1.3.0.53-fc4<br \/>\n\tumb-scheme-3.2-39.fc4.1<br \/>\n\tcdicconf-0.2-11.1.fc4<br \/>\n\tiiimf-server-12.2-4.fc4.2<br \/>\n\tlibfame-0.9.1-7.2.fc4<br \/>\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e skype-1.3.0.53-fc4<br \/>\n\t$ rpm -e umb-scheme-3.2-39.fc4.1<br \/>\n\t$ rpm -e cdicconf-0.2-11.1.fc4<br \/>\n\t$ rpm -e iiimf-server-12.2-4.fc4.2<\/strong><br \/>\n\tuserdel: user iiimd does not exist<br \/>\n\terror: %preun(iiimf-server-12.2-4.fc4.2.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 6<br \/>\n\t<strong>$ rpm -e libfame-0.9.1-7.2.fc4<\/strong><br \/>\n\t$\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRepeat the above for <strong>FC1<\/strong> through <strong>FC9<\/strong> (Yes including the &lsquo;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>C<\/strong><\/span>&lsquo;
